ABOUT THE QUILT
Use 2-1/2” fabric strips to make these colorful flamingos. Just a few of these large-scale blocks will make a bold and graphic impact on your next quilt!
The pattern includes instructions for making quilts measuring 45" x 45" or 59" x 79".
Flamingo blocks are made using conventional patchwork techniques. No paper piecing! The flamingo's bent leg is made using a cutting guide that is included in the pattern.
ABOUT THE FABRIC
2-1/2” x WOF strips are commonly sold in pre-cut rolls, but can also be cut from your fabric stash.
Six fabric strips will be used to make each Florence Flamingo block. The blocks will be most successful when each block is made from six fabrics from the same color family, in a range of values from light to dark. I used fabrics from my Pond collection for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
A mid-tone neutral background fabric is recommended, as this will create contrast with both the light and dark solid block details and the colorful fabrics used to make the flamingos. My background is Robert Kaufman's Manchester cotton in Taupe. My detail fabrics are Kona solids in Pepper and Snow.
